The houses
The City’s 2007 survey of the downtown area describes blocks of single-story Craftsman and period revival homes set among larger Victorian-era houses, a mix from the late 1800s and early 1900s that still defines much of the area east of the commercial core. The earliest surviving homes sit in the foothills immediately to the north.
What floors here go through
In a house this old, the carpet may cover the original wood, a later floor or bare subfloor, so lift a corner in a closet and look before deciding what to clean. If it is wood, have the finish tested before any liquid goes on it. Where the rooms are small, a price by the square foot can come in under a price by the room.
Worth knowing
Mission San Buenaventura, founded by Junípero Serra as the ninth California mission, is the reason the city exists: Ventura was founded in 1782 and incorporated as the town of San Buenaventura on April 2, 1866. On December 5, 2017, the Thomas Fire reached the hills above downtown, where apartment buildings and homes were damaged or destroyed.

What does carpet cleaning cost in Downtown?

Is there wood flooring under the carpet in old downtown houses?
Sometimes. Lift a corner of carpet in a closet to check. If there is wood, put a tablespoon of water on a worn spot: if it soaks in at once and leaves a dark mark, the finish is badly worn, and the floor needs recoating or refinishing more than a cleaning.
