The houses
The City’s Midtown code describes Victorian-era, Craftsman and period revival houses alongside one-story duplexes, fourplexes and bungalow courts. After the Second World War thousands of families settled here, and by 1966 the subdivisions reached well past Mills Road.
What floors here go through
Duplexes, fourplexes and bungalow courts mean small units with small rooms, where a price by the square foot is worth asking for alongside the price by the room. In the older houses, look under the carpet before deciding what to clean: there may be wood.
Worth knowing
Midtown is the one part of Ventura that the City’s water report names for every source: river and Lake Casitas water serve the west and midtown, and groundwater serves the east and midtown. Depending on the source reaching your tap, hardness can average anywhere from about 263 to 637 mg/L, all of it very hard.
