The houses
The California Coastal Commission’s 2018 report on the Keys describes more than 300 waterfront residential lots along the channels, with private easements for boat docks. The channels were built in the early 1960s, shortly after Ventura Harbor was dug, and the houses face the water.
What floors here go through
Houses on the water bring the outdoors in: wet feet from the dock, sand from the beach and dust from the boat. Boat cushions and patio furniture are upholstery jobs too, priced by the piece, so mention them when you ask for a price.
Worth knowing
The channels reach the sea through the harbor’s mouth, and private dock easements take up about half of the water surface. The waterways are kept open by periodic maintenance dredging.

Usually, as upholstery priced by the piece. Follow the fabric maker’s instructions: Sunbrella, for one, says to clean its marine upholstery with mild soap in lukewarm water, rinse it thoroughly and let it air dry, and never to dry clean it.
